A digital story is a story that has been created and with a computer and that contains audio and/or visuals. It has become a useful tool in today's schools, especially with the digital natives, as they can express themselves and show off their talents in new and interesting ways.
Below is my final edit of my digital story. Please note that this story does have sexual references (M15+)
Pitch: Elly has had two bad relationships back to back, the second even worse than the first. This video explores her first relationship, her love, her sorrow and her anger. It delves into the troubled mind of a drunk and the impact that he had on her. Please be aware that this video contains sexual references and violence.
A dramatic/engaging question is posed i.e an engaging introduction.I entered the story with just text and sound, to emphasis the statement. "Anyone I date needs a criminal background check". This one line could create a multitude of stories, which may engage the viewer. Arc of the story clear, eg, establish, complication, resolution, conclusion.I created a story of a relationship from start to end. (although it ended a little fast). I created black fade outs to establish different scenes. The begining was the start of the relationship, the complication was the problems in the relationship, and the resolution and conclusion was the break up.Emotional content – something everyone can relate to, some universal connection, eg, loss, redemption, crisis, change.I chose this story as it is interesting, emotional and easy to relate to. Everyone has had a relationship at sometime and understands how loving and difficult it can be. Economy of words –not overdone or unnecessary words.I really drew back on the words, and made sure only to use words that added to the story. You will see this by looking at the transcript and seeing how I used only the interesting parts, and then furthermore cut this down in the final edit.Details that add depth.I didn't add extra sound effects to add depth, rather, I used editing techniques, like long fades for drawn out emotion, quick fades for sharp effect, hard cuts to dramatise the words and black fades to enable the viewer to process the information.Audience engaged and kept interested.I kept interest by making my scenes short, interesting and using a variety of well taken and interesting photos. I also made it interesting by not showing the faces of the actors and using different light, and animation sequences.Story well paced, neither too short of too long.I feel that this project was perfect timing, except that the ending was a bit abrupt.
