My first YouTube video.

YouTube is a video sharing website which users can upload and share videos. YouTube contains millions of videos that cover movie clips, TV clips, music videos and amateur content like blogging and original videos. YouTube is unique as it is a private as can be, recording in your own room, but is the most public as it could potentially reach millions of viewers all over the world. Main Features/Advantages:

  • Easy to upload videos in a variety of formats.
  • Can personalize your own account.
  • Can subscribe to other posters.
  • Create personal blogs and share them all over the world.
  • Can post anonymously with true feelings.
  • Youtube videos can be embedded into many other websites.

How I Would Use This Tool:
With the ability to embed YouTube videos into other pages, the options are endless. Personally I will use YouTube to post my own videos and maybe blogs to share with my family and friends. YouTube is good because you are receiving an authentic audience, more incentive to do well.

In the class room, I could use it for presentations. Students can create works in many areas of the curriculum, not just sticking to pen and paper and use YouTube to present. Also YouTube style sites, like teacher tube are great for instructional video and lesson ideas.

I feel that this tool may not be suitable for classrooms, so I have also investigated TeacherTube. TeacherTube is content for students. It has all the bells and whistles of YouTube, but is education focused. TeacherTube is less user friendly though, and I did not spend much time with it as I did with YouTube.
